Leprosy Related Activities

Aifo is health and development organisation working to restore health, hope and dignity to people affected by Leprosy and other allied diseases, particularly those with disabling consequences and children welfare programmes.
Support to National leprosy eradication programme ( NLEP) – At the Centre, State District up to the peripheral levels, along with Partners specially to organisations of Persons affected by Leprosy,  and Non -Governmental Organisations in carrying out NLEP activities through:
  • Participating in Planning, Joint monitoring and evaluation exercises along with the Central Leprosy Division and WHO
  • Sponsoring and conducting Regional State Leprosy Officers Review meeting – (Along with (ILEP) International Federation of Anti-Leprosy Associations partners)
  • Prevention ,control , treatment and rehabilitation of persons affected with leprosy , in integrated health care setting.
  • Support for Training (Capacity Building) and Research activities
  • Provision of Technical expertise in managing complicated cases
  • Publication of Scientific /Technical materials
Community Based Rehabilitation for all persons with disability (Integrated approaches for Inclusion of Persons Affected by Leprosy)
Care of vulnerable groups like children
Special efforts:
AIFO extended operations to underserved areas in the North Eastern States of India (Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh) and further to the States of Tripura and Manipur – by Placement of Supportive Team in assisting the State Leprosy Officer carrying out Supportive Supervision, monitoring and training Programmes Increasing access and availability of Reconstructive Surgery along with customised special Footwear for persons affected by Leprosy in close collaboration and partnership with the Government and Non-Government Health system.

AIFO along with ILEP members, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Ministry of Health – Central Leprosy Divisions / Government of India, operate in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Karnataka as State Coordinators and with collaboration with other ILEP partners in the States of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
